Morning Joe Goes Into Damage Control Mode Trying to Cover Up the Hunter Laptop Scandal
The Morning Joe hosts have been trying to downplay the Hunter Biden laptop scandal since it first broke in October, but their latest attempt is particularly shameful. On Wednesday morning, host Joe Scarborough burst out laughing as his colleague Mike Barnicle tried to explain away the Republican’s plans to subpoena 51 members of the intelligence community who signed a letter that erroneously labeled the New York Post's Hunter Biden exposé as "Russian disinformation."
Mika Brzezinski then complained that by doing so, the GOP was “coming for Joe Biden’s remaining son.” It’s clear that they are desperate to cover up this scandal, and don't want anyone getting too close to the truth.
The problem with Morning Joe's plan of damage control is that it isn't going to work. Despite their attempts to downplay and dismiss the scandal, people are still talking about it—and for good reason. After all, there are dozens of emails on Hunter Biden's laptop that suggest he was using his father's political influence for personal gain.
This includes emails from Hunter himself bragging about how he had used his connections with Ukrainian and Chinese officials to secure lucrative business deals for himself and his associates. It appears that he was also receiving large sums of money from foreign governments while his father served as Vice President of the United States—a fact which has many people questioning whether or not Joe Biden was involved in any way.
The other issue is that even if Morning Joe wanted to ignore this story, they can't. The Republicans have made it clear that they plan on subpoenaing those 51 members of the intelligence community in an effort to get answers about why they labeled this story as Russian disinformation when it wasn't.
This means that not only will this story continue to be a topic of discussion in news circles, but it could also lead to criminal charges against those responsible for labeling it as such—which would obviously put more pressure on the Bidens and make this story even harder for Scarborough and Brzezinski to ignore.
At its core, this entire fiasco is really about power and privilege. It's clear from these emails that Hunter was using his father's political influence in order to enrich himself and his associates—a practice which is unethical at best and illegal at worst. However, because of their power and privilege, it seems unlikely that either one of them will ever face any real consequences for their actions—unless someone forces them too by taking legal action against them or exposing them publicly (which is exactly what Republicans are attempting with this latest move).
It's obvious why Morning Joe Goons are trying so desperately hard to cover up the Hunter Biden laptop scandal; after all, if more people find out what really happened then both Joe and Hunter could face serious consequences for their actions. But no matter how hard they try, the truth will eventually come out—and when it does, there may be no stopping it from taking down everyone involved in this sordid affair once and for all.
