Louisiana Tech Player Suspended Indefinitely After Stomping Player
Friday night’s game between Louisiana Tech and UTEP took a shocking turn when Louisiana Tech linebacker Brevin Randle stomped on the back of the neck of UTEP offensive lineman Steven Hubbard. The incident, which was caught on camera, has sparked outrage on social media and has resulted in Randle being suspended indefinitely.
The incident occurred during the third quarter of the game, and although Randle was not penalized during the game, the footage has caused a stir among fans and sports analysts alike. Louisiana Tech athletics director Eric Wood made a statement on Saturday, announcing Randle’s indefinite suspension and condemning his actions.
According to Wood, Randle has acknowledged his mistake and understands the consequences of his actions. The University, athletic department, and football program at Louisiana Tech uphold the values of culture, class, and competitive excellence, and Randle’s behavior in that moment was in direct violation of those values.
UTEP coach Dana Dimel also addressed the incident during his post-game press conference. Dimel stated that the referee had admitted to missing the incident and expressed his admiration for the referee’s honesty and sportsmanlike behavior. He also added that such actions have no place in the game, and he appreciated the referee’s acknowledgment of the mistake.
Randle, a senior at Louisiana Tech, has been a standout player for the team this season, with 46 total tackles and two sacks. His suspension will undoubtedly have an impact on the team, both on and off the field.
The Bulldogs went on to win the game against UTEP with a final score of 24-10. The game was off to an exciting start when Tyre Shelton opened the scoring for Louisiana Tech with a 1-yard rushing touchdown. This play was set up by a spectacular 85-yard catch-and-run by Cyrus Allen, showcasing the team’s impressive offense. Bulldogs quarterback Jack Turner also had a decent game, completing nine out of 20 passes and throwing a touchdown pass.
Shelton, the standout player of the game, finished with 104 rushing yards on 16 carries. He was also instrumental in Louisiana Tech’s defense, helping to keep UTEP at bay throughout the game.
The incident involving Randle detracted from an otherwise thrilling and competitive game between Louisiana Tech and UTEP. The Bulldogs’ victory is a testament to their talent and resilience on the field, despite the unfortunate incident involving Randle's unsportsmanlike conduct.
As the investigation into the incident proceeds, there is no doubt that the suspension of Randle will have a significant impact on the team. The Bulldogs will have to regroup and focus on the upcoming games without one of their key defensive players.
The incident serves as a reminder that sportsmanship is an essential aspect of any sport, and unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated. Louisiana Tech and UTEP both demonstrated this by addressing the incident swiftly and condemning Randle’s actions.
It is now up to Randle to take responsibility for his actions and work towards regaining the trust and respect of his team and the larger sports community. Until then, he will remain suspended indefinitely from the Louisiana Tech football team.
No place for this in football !!! https://t.co/zxJVcftfdi
