Butker Endorses Senator
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made headlines recently by officially endorsing Senator Josh Hawley in his re-election bid.
Butker, known for his skill on the football field, has taken a more public political stance, appearing with Hawley on Fox News' The Ingraham Angle to praise the senator’s commitment to family values and his faith.
During the interview, Butker explained that, with the Chiefs on a bye week, he wanted to spend some time supporting Hawley, describing the senator as a "family man" and "godly man" and stating there was no other candidate he’d rather endorse for his first political foray.
Hawley, grateful for Butker’s support, spoke highly of the kicker’s courage, referencing a controversy Butker faced earlier this year. During a commencement address at Benedictine College, Butker made remarks about women’s roles, encouraging graduates to embrace homemaking, which sparked backlash.
Butker expressed disappointment that some had misinterpreted his speech, clarifying that he intended to honor the role of homemakers without diminishing the accomplishments of women who pursue careers.
During the interview, Butker stood by his comments, emphasizing the value of prioritizing family and children, but he was careful to note that his remarks weren’t meant to discourage women from pursuing education or careers. Instead, he aimed to celebrate those who choose to focus on raising their families.
The discussion later shifted toward the upcoming presidential election, with Fox News host Laura Ingraham asking whether Butker supports former President Donald Trump. Butker remained non-committal on specific candidates, saying he would back whoever is "most pro-life."
His answer highlighted the importance of faith and life issues in his decision-making process, avoiding direct endorsement of any presidential candidate but maintaining a focus on pro-life values as central to his political beliefs.
As the 2024 campaign season heats up, Butker’s endorsement of Hawley may further cement the senator’s appeal to voters who prioritize traditional family values and religious faith.
