Plouffe Deletes Social Media Account After Posts
David Plouffe, a former advisor to both Barack Obama and Kamala Harris, abruptly deleted his X (formerly Twitter) account this week after Harris’s loss to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
Plouffe’s social media activity was already under scrutiny after he made a bold prediction on election night, only to see the results turn in Trump’s favor across all battleground states. Prior to deleting his account, he praised Harris’s team for their dedication and hinted at the significant challenges they faced, some of which he implied were tied to Joe Biden’s legacy.
In a final post, Plouffe expressed gratitude for the campaign’s efforts, writing, “It was a privilege to spend the last 100 days with @KamalaHarris and the amazing staff led by @jomalleydillon who left it all on the field for their country.” He added, “We dug out of a deep hole but not enough,” describing the loss as “devastating.” Just a day later, he disappeared from the platform entirely, drawing attention and sparking speculation.

Earlier in the night, Plouffe appeared confident on CNN, predicting that Harris would win in the critical battleground states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina. However, Trump ended up sweeping all seven of these key states, a blow that underscored the missteps in Harris’s campaign strategy.
In his televised interview, Plouffe said the campaign had been prepared for a tight race but expressed optimism, claiming they were “closing strong” in Pennsylvania and had “a credible pathway” to securing the battleground states.
The tension didn’t end there. Following the election, an unnamed aide to Harris commented to POLITICO that “Joe Biden is the singular reason Kamala Harris and Democrats lost tonight,” pointing to the challenges of building a new platform while tied to Biden’s record. Plouffe’s statement seemed to echo this sentiment, highlighting an internal divide that has only widened in the wake of the loss.
In a pointed response, a Biden ally fired back, defending Biden’s record and pointing out that the former president’s success in beating Trump in 2020 was achieved without Plouffe’s involvement.
In a statement to Fox News, the source characterized Plouffe as “sanctimonious” and his social media comments as “unproductive,” adding to the building post-election tension between the Biden and Harris camps.
