Slotkin Unloads On Trump Staff With Brutal Prosecution Threat
Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin explicitly stated she wants to use the threat of prosecution to stop young people from taking jobs in a future Trump administration. She made these comments during an event at the University of Chicago on October 13, according to Fox News.
Slotkin said she plans to pursue specific legal cases against officials who helped President Donald Trump. She told the crowd she wants to focus on the people who enabled him, not just the president himself. "I want to look at these signature cases and not just focus on the president, but on the people who enabled him," the Michigan Democrat said.
This is incredibly disappointing and unprofessional coming from a US Senator - endorsing political prosecutions to dissuade patriotic Americans from serving their country. The senator outlined a clear goal for her legal strategy during an interview on "America, Actually," as reported by the Daily Wire. She wants potential government workers to fear the legal risks of joining a Trump team. According to the New York Post, she stated that one must select signature cases and target individuals and projects that are simply super egregious. Slotkin said she wants young people to consider whether they should take such a job.
She wants them to realize that such a job could lead to serious legal trouble. She added simply, "I want that deterrence message sent."
Slotkin argued that people working for Trump do not have legal protection from these actions. "The people around Donald Trump who are doing his bidding and enabling this have no such immunity," she said. She noted she voted twice to impeach Trump and believes her party must go after those who did his bidding.
Sen. Slotkin, a self-avowed “defender of democracy,” told me and other conservative students that we should live in fear of political persecution if we dare serve our country in the Trump administration. Sadly for her, we will never be intimidated by her Bolshevik-style tactics.

Law professor Jonathan Turley criticized the remarks on social media platform X. According to Fox News, Slotkin stated the quiet part out loud, which he wrote. Scott Kupor, who directs the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, also labeled the remarks "disappointing and unprofessional." Kupor wrote that the senator was endorsing political prosecutions to stop patriotic Americans from serving.
Slotkin said Democrats must pick cases that are super egregious if they want to make an example of someone. "But you can't just make that your whole personality, right?" she asked, adding that her desire is for young people graduating from school to ask themselves if they should go work for the Trump administration. She also stated the party needs accountability for what she called unbelievable corruption.
It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically.
Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country.
Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case.
Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve.
In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota.
The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

The senator's comments have sparked a debate about the role of the Justice Department. She believes the government should be reformed to prevent future issues. "We do have to have accountability for the unbelievable corruption that we are living under right now," she said. The viral nature of her speech at the Chicago event has already drawn significant attention.
