Border Security Alert: Mexico Sides With Russia
What a time for US border security to be at an all-time low. Mexico just sided with Russia in that the Mexican President refused to join the rest of the world in sanctions against Putin and the seizure of Russian assets. You might argue that this isn't siding with Putin, but you should also know that Mexico has come out against censoring Putin's propaganda.
The Hill:
"Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said on Tuesday his country won't impose economic sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.
"We are not going to take any sort of economic reprisal because we want to have good relations with all the governments in the world," López Obrador said at his daily news conference.
López Obrador was internally criticized for his reluctance to condemn the unprovoked invasion, with initial official Mexican reactions calling for dialogue between the parties."
"The announcement from López Obrador came just a day after he and the Mexican tourism minister said that Mexico would not follow the EU in blocking Russian airlines from landing at airports in the country, according to Mexico News Daily. Over the weekend, Tourism Minister Miguel Torruco also posted a widely criticized series of tweets showcasing various statistics about Russian tourism in Mexico and the money that has come into the country related to tourism from Russia.
The Mexican president also criticized what he considered to be censorship of Russian state-owned media, as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Reddit and YouTube have all taken steps in recent days to combat misinformation or propaganda regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, including halting advertising revenue from being distributed to several Russian state-owned outlets."
What a terrible time to have US southern borders open to anyone willing to cross. Especially if Mexico is going to become a Russian safehaven.
