Can The Democrats End The Shutdown Thursday…Without Funding The Wall?
As we enter Day 12 of the partial government shutdown, the Democrats have a plan to end the shutdown and reopen the government.
It doesn’t involve funding the building of the wall. It doesn’t even involve President Trump for that matter.
On Thursday, January 3, 2019, the newly elected officials will take their seats and the House of Representatives will once again be under Democratic control.
Town Hall reports,
Shortly after Democrats retake control of the House of Representatives on Thursday, they’ll be voting on bills they say can end the government shutdown. There’s just one tiny problem…and you can probably guess what it is. The legislation doesn’t include the $5 billion President Trump has demanded for the border wall.
On Tuesday, presumptive incoming Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi said in a letter addressed to Democrats that the plan is to “pass strong, bipartisan legislation to reopen government, which has already received strong bipartisan support in the Senate.”
Midway through Tuesday, President Trump tweeted out a message to Nancy Pelosi, “Border Security and the Wall “thing” and Shutdown is not where Nancy Pelosi wanted to start her tenure as Speaker! Let’s make a deal?”

Pelosi replied shortly after,
.@realDonaldTrump has given Democrats a great opportunity to show how we will govern responsibly & quickly pass our plan to end the irresponsible #TrumpShutdown – just the first sign of things to come in our new Democratic Majority committed to working #ForThePeople. https://t.co/CGl1euCotB

According to Fox News,
The House Democratic plan includes one bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security at current levels through Feb. 8, with $1.3 billion for border security.
“We are giving the Republicans the opportunity to take yes for an answer. Senate Republicans have already supported this legislation, and if they reject it now, they will be fully complicit in chaos and destruction of the President’s third shutdown of his term,” Pelosi said.
Dan Calabrese from the Western Journal made a very interesting assessment Tuesday,
The longer the shutdown of 25 percent of the federal government goes on, the more people realize it’s no great shakes one way or the other. The government is not providing most people with beloved, necessary services on a day-to-day basis. Mostly the government sends out checks (which it’s still doing), prepares for war (which it’s still doing), regulates, investigates, sues, audits and makes dumb rules.
Isn’t that the truth? Our modern day government is basically good for nothing except enslaving and impoverishing its citizens.
