Celebrities Walk 6 Miles To Get Out Of Burning Man
Comedian Chris Rock and DJ Diplo had a wild ride to safety this weekend after escaping the Burning Man disaster. After walking for six miles in the mud and catching a ride with a fan, the pair made it out of the chaotic situation and have since gone their separate ways.
The 58-year-old Rock and 44-year-old Diplo started their journey on the back of a pickup truck given to them by a fan. Diplo documented their ride in a video posted to Instagram and wrote, “A fan offered Chris Rock and I a ride out of Burning Man in the back of a pickup. After walking six miles through the mud…all Chris could think about was a f***ing cold brew.”
The DJ continued his journey and updated his fans with a video of himself walking barefoot to a plane along with a selfie from the plane. “No one was making it out of Burning Man…No one believed we would get to DC for the show tonight. But God did,” he wrote when referring to his show in Washington DC. Rock also documented his experience on his Instagram story, sharing news that “because of the flooding, the port-o-potties reportedly can't be emptied…and because the gates are closed, people can't get in to fill generators or deliver supplies.”
Celebrities weren’t the only ones stuck in the middle of Potemkin Village. With gates closing and no driving allowed besides emergency vehicles, Burning Man organizers released multiple posts warning attendees to “Conserve food, water, and fuel, and [to] shelter in a warm, safe space.” In another post, the organizers encouraged people to not even travel to the city, saying, “Do not travel to Black Rock City! Access to the city is closed for the remainder of the event, and you will be turned around.”
Although Chris Rock and Diplo made it out safely, it’s still unclear the full effect of the flooding. The only thing that’s certain is that the organizers, along with everyone caught in the disaster, are all trying to get through safely and in time for their own show. Diplo shared his adventures with his fans one last time from the bathtub of his hotel room, saying, “For those of you who didn’t think I wasn’t at DC, I just got done DJing for 3 hours after walking f***ing for four hours out of the desert and taking a flight. Mud still on my face. I’m in f**ing DC, I’m in a f***ing Four Seasons. Why would I be at Burning Man still, you idiots?”
