Comer Makes A Stunning Announcement In Hunter Probe
House Republicans are planning to subpoena the Biden family over their business dealings as part of their ongoing investigation into the family's finances. Rep. James Comer (R-KY) said Thursday during an appearance on Fox Business that the subpoena will be issued soon and he expects a messy legal battle to ensue.
The probe was launched after Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) called for impeachment papers to be drawn up, so that Congress would have the authority to issue subpoenas with greater weight. "This was always gonna end with the Bidens coming in front of the committee," said Comer. "We are going to subpoena the family," he added.
The White House has denied all allegations of wrongdoing but the GOP is pushing forward with their lines of inquiry. Republicans have accused the Department of Justice, FBI, Secret Service, IRS, and the Biden family attorneys of stalling their progress.
At the forefront of the investigation is Hunter Biden and the millions of dollars he allegedly received in payouts from foreign dignitaries. Earlier this week, McCarthy demanded Biden hand over his bank records to prove he did not personally benefit from trading on his name while his father was vice president.
This was met with a response from Biden's father, Joe Biden, who said Wednesday that he "never talked business" with his son or his associates. Former Hunter Biden business partner Devon Archer had a different story to tell. When questioned by the House Oversight Committee, Archer said Biden had been present on speakerphone or in-person while Hunter met with business partners in various countries roughly 20 times.
"I can definitively say at particular dinners or meetings, he knew there were business associates," said Archer. "If his dad calls him at dinner and he picks up the phone, then there's a conversation. And the, you know, the conversation is generally about the weather and, you know, what it's like in Norway or Paris or wherever he may be," he added.
Comer claims he has records of over $20 million in payments to the Biden family and their partners from foreign business leaders. Providing more suspicion for the GOP, Hunter Biden recently entered into a plea deal for unrelated tax and gun charges. The judge informed him he would not be shielded from future charges - specifically FARA (Failure to Register as a Foreign Agent).
It's clear the GOP is pushing hard for answers. Whether they are prepared for the messy legal dispute that may come or not, the Biden family may soon be in the hot seat.
