Congresswoman Holds Discussion With California Governor and Discusses ICE's Role
It’s not often that a politician’s confusion becomes the punchline of the week, but Representative Jasmine Crockett seems determined to take that spotlight and run with it—hands waving all the way. Her latest moment? Publicly misrepresenting what ICE—U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement—is actually tasked with.
Jasmine Crockett tells Gavin Newsom that ICE is just supposed to be a "fancy Uber driver” for illegal aliens.
“That’s all ICE is supposed to do….We are a joke!"

No, it’s not a tax agency. No, it’s not a taxi company. And no, despite her apparent bewilderment, it’s certainly not an acronym in need of reinterpretation. ICE was created for a reason—immigration enforcement and homeland security—and hearing a sitting member of Congress so wildly mischaracterize that mission isn’t just embarrassing, it’s deeply telling.
The reaction was swift, and it wasn’t kind.
ICE stands for Immigrations, and Customs Enforcement. The enforcement part of that is what they are doing now and weren't permitted to do under Biden. This is what it looks like. You'd best get used to it as there will be 200% more doing it pretty quickly.

Commenters across social platforms lit up with a mixture of disbelief and dark humor. Some mocked Crockett’s lack of understanding by suggesting that she and Governor Gavin Newsom—whose penchant for overly dramatic gestures is practically meme material—form a team. Maybe they’ll call it SWAT, though they’d likely spend more time swatting at microphones and buzzwords than dealing with any real issues.
ICE is a joke? A legal immigration enforcement arm of the federal government? Really? Gavin and his friends, like Jasmine, cosplay as serious politicians fighting for us.

The online swarm didn’t stop there. One user quipped that whoever “fished” Crockett out of the political pond ought to have tossed her back, while others, staring at clips of her and Newsom side-by-side, claimed they were “looking into the future”—and didn’t like what they saw.
We have laws, Jasmine. You're a lawyer and a congressperson. Look up our immigration laws - ICE is doing exactly what they're supposed to: prevent illegal immigration and deport those illegals they find.

Yet for all the snark, there’s a sobering undertone. Voters are paying attention, and the more Crockett talks, the more questions are raised—not just about her own competence, but about the judgment of the party that elevated her. Her continued media presence might actually serve conservatives better than any campaign ad.
So, maybe Democrats should call a taxi. One-way trip. Far from the mic. Far from ICE. And definitely far from leadership.
