Deep State Just Gave Pence A Pass. Will Trump Get The Same?
The Department of Justice has cleared former Vice President Mike Pence of any criminal wrongdoing in an investigation relating to the alleged mishandling of a classified document.
The FBI and the National Security Division of the Department of Justice launched an investigation into possible misuse of classified documents by Pence. After a thorough examination, it was concluded that no criminal action would be taken against the former Vice President.
The incident occurred earlier this year when an attorney representing Pence discovered classified documents at Pence's home. The lawyer took immediate action, informing federal authorities, and Pence fully cooperated with the investigation.
The Justice Department noted in a letter to Pence’s lawyer that “based on the results of that investigation, no criminal charges will be sought.”
Despite the lack of criminal charges, former President Donald Trump responded to the news on social media claiming, “That’s great, but when am I going to be fully exonerated? I’m at least as innocent as he is.”
It is likely that Trump is referring to the Special Counsel investigation that is being led by Jack Smith. The team is currently investigating alleged mishandling of more than 100 classified documents that were discovered at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida last year. His lawyers have been contesting the seizure since, arguing that the documents are protected under attorney-client privilege.
Despite Trump’s protests, the investigation continues and reports have suggested that Smith’s team is closing in on possible charging decisions. Trump currently faces numerous felony charges in New York in a case that has been widely criticized as being politically motivated. He also faces a federal investigation and an investigation in Georgia over his attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
In contrast to Trump’s case, Pence acted swiftly and appropriately upon the discovery of the classified document. He, alongside his attorney, took the responsible course of action and has now been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing.
Although Pence is expected to enter the 2024 presidential race next week, the news that he was cleared of criminal charges will likely offer a much-needed boost for his run. Whether he succeeds in the race is yet to be determined, but for now it appears he is in the clear.
