Downs Syndrome Society Released Touching Ad That Should Put Planned Parenthood In Their Place
On February 8, the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) celebrated its 40th anniversary by releasing a powerful video.
The video, which was originally covered by The Daily Wire, features a doctor listing off all of the alleged “limitations” a person with Down syndrome will have to address in their lives. In between each statement by the doctor, individuals with Down syndrome rebut his remarks.
“Down syndrome?” the doctor says. “There will be a lot of limitations.”
The video cuts to a woman wearing a graduation gown, who says: “Are you sure about that?”
Each time the doctor makes a statement, a person with Down syndrome interjects, citing their successes – from owning a business to being happily married for more than a decade, from being a weightlifting champion to a Washington lobbyist.
“Your limitations, not mine.”
The touching video features Frank Stephens, who has Down syndrome and defended his Right to Life and the Right to Life of all people with disabilities. His words were simple and direct, and his message is that our society accepts him and people like him as human beings. As Stephens says, “I am a man with Down syndrome and my life is worth living.”
Stephens testified in a Congressional subcommittee last week in order to advocate the importance of scientific research for Down syndrome. As he said in his opening statement, “No one knows more about life with Down syndrome than I do.”
The National Down Syndrome Society is the leading human rights organization for all individuals with Down syndrome. The NDSS envisions a world in which all people with Down syndrome have the opportunity to enhance their quality of life, realize their life aspirations and become valued members of welcoming communities.
This powerful video was a tribute to 40 years of service, fighting for rights to life and pursuit of happiness. If this doesn’t ruin any thoughts about terminating a baby with Downs, I don’t know what will.
