Eric Swalwell's History with Hunter Biden, Clintons Revisited
The controversy surrounding former Rep. Eric Swalwell has expanded beyond the immediate allegations against him, pulling in past political alliances, financial connections, and resurfaced moments that critics are now reexamining under a harsher light.
At the center are multiple sexual assault allegations, which Swalwell has denied through his attorney, who described them as fabricated and politically motivated. Even so, the political fallout has been swift.
His resignation from Congress and the collapse of his gubernatorial ambitions marked an abrupt shift for a figure who had been a visible presence in national Democratic politics.
Layered onto that is renewed attention on Swalwell’s relationship with Hunter Biden and attorney Kevin Morris. Campaign finance records confirm Morris donated $29,900 to Swalwell’s gubernatorial campaign earlier this year, adding to prior contributions to his congressional campaigns.
Morris, already known for financially supporting Hunter Biden through legal expenses and other costs, has become a focal point in the broader narrative critics are building—one that attempts to connect political loyalty, financial backing, and personal relationships.
Swalwell’s public defense of Hunter Biden during prior investigations is also being revisited. His involvement in organizing logistics around a December 2023 press conference—where Hunter Biden declined to comply with a congressional subpoena for closed-door testimony—drew scrutiny at the time.
Critics now point to that moment as evidence of a deeper alignment, while Swalwell had argued then that the investigations lacked factual basis.
There are also older controversies being pulled back into view. Swalwell’s past association with a suspected Chinese intelligence operative—an issue that surfaced years ago and led to his removal from the House Intelligence Committee—has reentered the conversation, alongside questions about Morris’s business ties involving a Chinese firm previously connected to Hunter Biden. These elements, while not new, are being reframed collectively as part of a broader pattern by opponents.
Political and financial support has also shown signs of strain. One donor, Stephen Cloobeck, publicly distanced himself in blunt terms, signaling how quickly alliances can dissolve when allegations reach a certain threshold. His comments reflect a wider dynamic in political fundraising, where reputational risk can shift donor behavior almost overnight.
