Face Palm: Criminal Lied To Officers and Forgot One Very Important Thing
A man reportedly tried to give officers the wrong name while still wearing his name tag. Duh. Towner was ultimately arrested for resisting arrest, obstructing a government operation, false reporting, child neglect and third-degree domestic assault.
The Huff Post reported that the Lincoln Police arrested 26-year-old Markel Towner on Tuesday for allegedly resisting arrest and providing a false name to officers, the department wrote on Facebook earlier this week.
Police responding to a report of a domestic assault around 10:30 p.m. found the suspect, Towner, sitting in a parked vehicle outside the home. They noted that Towner also had two warrants for his arrest.
When they questioned Towner, he allegedly gave his name as Deangelo Towns, according to Omaha station KETV. However, the officers say they noticed a lanyard around Towner’s neck that read “Markel Towner.”
When Towner was told he was under arrest, police said he tensed up, resisted arrest and yelled that he didn’t do anything wrong.
Lincoln Police Department wrote on their Facebook page:
“False Reporting – On May 21st, shortly after 10:30 p.m., officers responded to domestic assault near 14th and E Street. Officers were aware the suspect they would be contacting, 26 year old Markel Towner, had two arrest warrants. Officers found a man that matched Towner’s description seated in a parked vehicle outside the residence they were sent to. The officer asked the man for his name and he stated he was “Deangelo Towns”.
The officer observed a lanyard around the man’s neck with the name “Markel Towner” on it. The officer told Towner he was under arrest and he began to tense up, resist arrest, and yell at officers that he didn’t do anything wrong. The officers struggled with Towner for several minutes and they went to the ground where Towner grabbed the officer’s duty belt. During the struggle, friends and family of Towner started to surround the officers in attempt to intervene and prevent the arrest. Towner was eventually taken into custody without injury and arrested for resisting arrest, obstructing a government operation, false reporting, child neglect and 3rd degree domestic assault.”
