Federal Judge Temporarily Blocks Trump Policy To Revoke Immigrant Statues
Here we go again. Another federal judge, another roadblock—this time, it’s Judge Indira Talwani stepping in to stall President Donald Trump’s effort to revoke temporary legal status from more than half a million migrants paroled into the U.S. under the Biden administration’s sweeping immigration programs. But what’s drawing attention isn’t just her ruling—it’s her resume.
Talwani, a Massachusetts-based federal judge appointed by Barack Obama, has a clear paper trail of partisan involvement. Not only did she donate to prominent Democrats—$1,000 to John Kerry, $350 to Elizabeth Warren, $100 to Obama, and more to the Democratic National Committee—but she also knocked on doors for these same politicians during their campaigns. We're not talking vague ideological leanings here. This is hands-on, boots-on-the-ground activism.
And yet, she’s ruling on some of the most consequential immigration cases in the country.
The latest example? Her decision to temporarily block Trump from revoking the legal status of migrants from Haiti, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba. That’s an estimated 530,000 individuals who, under the Biden-era parole programs, were allowed to live and work in the U.S. without going through the traditional asylum or immigration process.
These programs were behind the influx of Haitian migrants into places like Springfield, Ohio and Charleroi, Pennsylvania—towns already struggling to accommodate the sudden population surge.
Talwani’s pattern of rulings isn’t new. She’s previously sided against the Trump administration’s deportation efforts, even going so far as to require Homeland Security to give advance notice before removing an individual involved in anti-Israel protests. In 2019, she ruled against ICE’s authority to arrest illegal immigrants on courthouse grounds—a blow to law enforcement and a win for activist groups.
But it’s not just immigration. Her rulings lean left across the board. She backed a school district that sent a seventh grader home for wearing a shirt that read “there are only two genders,” siding with the school’s claim that the shirt violated others’ rights. That decision sent a chilling message about the limits of free expression, especially when it conflicts with progressive ideology.
Talwani’s not alone. Other judges with deep Democrat ties have issued similar rulings. Judge Patricia Millett upheld an injunction that blocked Trump’s use of the Alien Enemies Act to fast-track deportations of criminal aliens.
Her donation total? Over $31,000 to Democrats. And let’s not forget Judge James Boasberg, whose wife founded a D.C. abortion clinic and contributed over $11,000 to Democrats, including Hillary Clinton.
