Fireworks Go Off Between Pence And Tuck
Republican presidential candidate and former Vice President Mike Pence and Fox News personality Tucker Carlson clashed heads during an interview in Iowa on Friday.
The interview, held at the Family Leadership Summit, focused on the war in Ukraine, the January 6 riot at the US Capitol, and the 2020 presidential election.
When Pence started to talk about some NATO countries potentially beginning to give fighter jets to Ukraine, Tucker Carlson interjected and challenged Pence’s opinion.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Vice President, have you, I know you’re running for president, you are distressed that the Ukrainians don’t have enough American tanks,” Carlson said. “Every city in the United States has become much worse over the past three years. Drive around. There’s not one city that’s gotten better in the United States. And it’s visible.”
“Our economy has degraded, the suicide rate has jumped, public filth and disorder and crime have exponentially increased,” Carlson continued. “And yet your concern is that the Ukrainians, a country most people can’t find on a map, who’ve received tens of billions of U.S. tax dollars, don’t have enough tanks.”
“I think it’s a fair question to ask, like, where’s the concern for the United States in that?” Carlson asked.
In response, Pence claimed that Carlson had brought up the same routine previously.
"Tucker, I’ve heard that routine from you before. But that’s not my concern,” Pence said. “I’m running for president in the United States, because I think this country is in a lot of trouble. I think Joe Biden has weakened America at home and abroad.”
Pence went on to say that as President of the United States, he aims to address domestic issues, such as restoring law and order, while abroad he will work to make sure “we have men and women on our courts at every level that will stand for the right to life and defend all the God given liberties enshrined in our Constitution.”
By the end of the interview, Pence left viewers with the message that the US can and must lead on both domestic and foreign policy issues.
The interview left many with unanswered questions, but also demonstrated Pence’s ability to keep calm under the pressure of Carlson’s hostile questioning.
Whether or not this interaction will affect the outcome of the 2022 US presidential election remains to be seen.
