Goldman Defends Joe After GOP Moves Forward
Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) angrily responded to Republican lawmakers' ongoing investigation into the actions of the Biden family on Monday night.
Speaking during an interview with CNN host Anderson Cooper, Goldman demanded the investigation be shut down immediately, claiming there was no valid legislative purpose for it.
"This investigation, Anderson, needs to end and it needs to end now because what we're doing is badgering a private citizen," Goldman said.
The Democrats' impeachment efforts against former President Donald Trump included Goldman. Now he's suggesting that the three-committee congressional investigation looking into the Biden family is being utilized as a "taxpayer-funded defense and political arm of Donald Trump."
Goldman also asserted that Devon Archer, a former Hunter Biden business partner, told congressional representatives that there was no payment of $5 million given to either Biden that he knew of.
Instead of focusing on the Biden family, Goldman urged Congress to pay attention to what matters to Americans, which is "Donald Trump's economic disaster, Donald Trump's handling of the pandemic, the longstanding and deep racial injustice in this country, making sure we can secure and protect our elections from foreign interference."
Last week, a federal judge agreed to freeze the plea deal entered into by Hunter Biden. Goldman said the fact that Congress is now using taxpayer money to investigate this is "absolutely preposterous," not to mention "far afield this Republican party is from the American people and what they care about."
Though Hunter Biden is a private citizen, Republicans contend that the actions of the Biden family merit investigation, claiming there may be evidence of corruption or self-dealing involved.
The Biden administration has resisted the investigation, calling it a "purely political mystery" with "no factual basis whatsoever." Despite this, Democrats have yet to forestall the investigation.
