GOP Gets The Ball Rolling On Mayorkas Impeachment
It's no secret that the border between the United States and Mexico has seen an influx of illegal immigrants in the past few months, and the Biden administration has yet to make any headway in resolving the crisis. In fact, the situation seems to be getting worse by the day.
Now, one Republican lawmaker is taking a stand and introducing articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for what he believes is treasonous behavior.
Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona, a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, recently appeared on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" to explain why he believes Mayorkas must be removed from office. According to Biggs, it's Congress' responsibility to "remove a public official from office … who is causing public harm," and he believes Mayorkas is doing just that.
Biggs went on to cite the Founding Fathers when discussing the impeachment clause, which states that a public official can be removed for committing "high crimes and misdemeanors," which he believes Mayorkas has done. "High crimes means that you are a public official, and you have violated the public trust, and you have to be removed," Biggs said.
The Arizona Republican went on to point out that prior to the Biden-Mayorkas administration, the Yuma border sector saw fewer than 9,000 illegal immigrant encounters, but in 2022, that number skyrocketed to 360,000.
Biggs also said that Mayorkas has gotten rid of every policy from the Trump-era and prior that was actually working to keep the border secure, and he believes the secretary has willfully imposed dangerous policies that are causing chaos in the country.
It's clear that the Biden administration's policies are not working when it comes to the border crisis, and the situation needs to be addressed. Rep. Biggs' call for impeachment of Mayorkas sends a strong message that the United States will not tolerate this kind of negligence and disregard for human life.
It's time for the Biden administration to take action and put an end to this crisis. It's time to hold those responsible accountable and to ensure that the United States' borders are secure and that the safety of those living within them is respected. It remains to be seen if Biggs' articles of impeachment will gain any traction in Congress, but it is certainly a step in the right direction.
