High Profile Democrats Are Melting Down After Trump's CNN Town Hall
Jon Stewart, the former host of "The Daily Show," has gone after CNN for holding a town hall that he believes was too accommodating to former President Donald Trump.
Stewart appeared on Anderson Cooper's show on CNN to discuss the network's recent town hall, which featured Trump as a guest. During the town hall, Trump repeated many of his unfounded claims about the 2020 election and criticized his political opponents.
Stewart was critical of CNN's decision to air the town hall, saying it was a move to gain ratings and accusing the network of giving Trump a platform to spread his false claims. He argued that the town hall was a missed opportunity for CNN to hold Trump accountable for his actions and statements.
Stewart also criticized the media more broadly for focusing too much on Trump and not enough on the issues that matter to everyday people. He called on journalists to do a better job of covering substantive issues and holding those in power accountable.
The Comedy Central alum was not the only one who had negative words about the town hall. Democratic strategist Donna Brazile chimed in and said, "Look, it was entertaining, it was disgusting, at the same time because this is a guy who continues to repeat the same lie after lie somehow believing it’s going to become true that the election was rigged. It was even more devastating to hear he might consider pardoning the people who attacked our democracy, the Proud Boys.”
CNN has faced criticism from others as well for its handling of the Trump town hall. Many viewers were upset with the network for giving Trump a platform at all. Despite the backlash, CNN has defended its decision to air the town hall, arguing that it is important to hear from all sides in the political debate.
