Hunter Biden’s Lawyer Explanation Of Text Doesn’t Go Over Well
Hunter Biden's attorney responded fiercely on Friday to an explosive whistleblower testimony alleging that President Joe Biden’s embattled son had threatened a Chinese official in an effort to extract payment. The testimony, released Thursday by Congressional Republicans, included a WhatsApp text message in which Hunter Biden allegedly threatened to wield his father’s influence against the Chinese official if payment was not made in a timely manner.
Chris Clark, Hunter’s attorney, addressed the allegations without disputing the veracity of the text message. Instead, Clark argued that anything the younger Biden might have said was a side-effect of “horrible addiction” and therefore could not be interpreted as being connected to his father in any way.
“As his attorney through this entire matter, I can say that any suggestion the investigation was not thorough, or cut corners, or cut my client any slack, is preposterous and deeply irresponsible,” said Clark. “The DOJ investigation covered a period which was a time of turmoil and addiction for my client. Any verifiable words or actions of my client, in the midst of a horrible addiction, are solely his own and have no connection to anyone in his family.”
On top of this, Clark condemned the “illegal” and “irresponsible” nature of the Commission Republicans for releasing the texts, stating that it was dangerously misleading to make any conclusions or inferences over the contents of the document.
So far, President Joe Biden has refrained from issuing a statement on the issue and Hunter’s still-pending investigation, with only White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki commenting, “This is not an issue being handled by anyone at the White House. It’s being handled by the Department of Justice and we’ll certainly leave it to them.
The verdict of the inquiry into Hunter’s case is still to be seen, but with Clark’s statements on Friday, it’s clear that the legal team is fighting hard to protect their client. Whether the particulars of the case will stand up to legal scrutiny, however, remains to be seen.
