Hunter’s Business Partner Will Testify Despite Claims
Devon Archer, a longtime business partner, and friend of Hunter Biden, is now living in hiding after reportedly receiving threats due to his pending testimony to the House Oversight Committee on Monday, according to sources close to him.
Archer allegedly worked alongside Hunter for multiple deals overseas and was subpoenaed to the committee in June. The 49-year-old's testimony is set to discuss meetings with foreign business partners of Hunter and Joe Biden, including the First Son’s alleged involvement in having Joe Biden on speakerphone.
A source close to Archer told Fox News that the former Rosemont Seneca consultancy partner has been "concerned for his and his family's safety" after his planned testimony was announced.
"There were reports that he was canceling his appearance. They're not true, he's not canceling. But he has gotten threats, and he's concerned about the threats," the source said. "His family has received threats. He doesn't know who from. But you don't have to be Dick Tracy to figure that out."
Archer is reportedly set to tell the House Oversight Committee Monday he used the speakerphone call tactic with Hunter and Joe Biden at least two dozen times. One of those cases is after the Burisma board meeting in Dubai on Dec. 4, 2015, where Hunter allegedly called Joe and introduced “Nikolai and Vadym” and said they “need our support.”
A lawyer for Archer said he is prepared to answer questions, just as he has already answered the Department of Justice, federal grand jury, and other questions regarding the Biden family.
"There have been many leaks and much speculation about Mr. Archer's potential statement to the Oversight Committee, but next week, Mr. Archer will get to speak for himself," attorney Matthew Schwartz of Boies Schiller Flexner said.
Meanwhile, Archer's wife, Krista, spoke to Fox News outside their Brooklyn townhouse. "He's not here, he's not at the other home. He's not in D.C.," she said, declining to say where her husband is. "I don't do the press. Honestly, I have no idea [what he's going to say]. I swear I don't. I stay out of it."
The New York podiatrist said she knew her husband was testifying to Congress on Monday, but added that she “stays out” of his dealings.
The House Oversight Committee had originally demanded Archer testify on June 16, 2020, however, the date was pushed back after his attorney agreed to cooperate.
Although Archer likely has records from his dealings with Hunter, one source said he will not be producing any documents for the committee. The House Oversight Committee has described Archer’s information on the Bidens as “crucial” and his “role in the Biden family’s business deals abroad, including but not limited to China, Russia, and Ukraine."
Archer, a former Abercrombie and Fitch model, graduated from Yale with Hunter. The two reportedly founded their consultancy together, and Hunter was quoted by the New York Post as having described Devon as his “best friend in business.”
Archer is also facing legal troubles as he will soon have to serve a year-long prison sentence for his part in a scheme to defraud a Native American tribe using a complex bond scheme, after losing an appeal last month.
Hunter and Archer’s relationship frayed due to the criminal proceedings, however, a source close to Archer emphasized his meeting with Congress is an "interview" rather than a "deposition," and that Archer’s only plan is to honestly answer questions.
