Ilhan Omar's Hometown Newspaper Rips Her A New One!
A searing editorial by Rep. Illhan Omar's own hometown news paper really highlights how much the freshman congresswoman has screwed up. The Minneapolis Star Tribune noted Omar's many errors since being elected.
If this is how they feel in her hometown, Omar should just quit now...
"Omar’s political rise has been marred by a series of unforced errors," the paper also said, "including intemperate remarks and tweets earlier this year that were widely perceived as anti-Semitic. Every month seems to bring a fresh problem."
At the national level, Omar has received criticism for appearing to play off of anti-semitic tropes in her criticisms of Israel. She was one of several freshman lawmakers -- including Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez -- who caught attention for controversial statements they made during their first term.
On Friday, Tlaib and Omar both caught flak from the president's son who described them anti-Semitic and part of the "Hamas Caucus."
It gets worst for Omar from there. Once people found out what she used her campaign funds for, they demanded a refund.
The Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board last week ordered Omar to reimburse her former campaign committee almost $3,500 after finding she had used campaign funds for personal travel. The board also ruled that she would have to pay a civil penalty of $500 for using campaign money to travel to Florida.
The newspaper's editorial board went on to argue that Omar is "no stranger to controversy," adding that she could have "avoided nearly every infraction by taking simple measures in advance to determine whether her actions would pass legal muster."
"Omar’s political rise has been marred by a series of unforced errors, including intemperate remarks and tweets earlier this year that were widely perceived as anti-Semitic," the board wrote, referencing comments Omar made about the U.S.-Israel relationship.
