Judge Just Embarrassed & Cracked Down On Biden Admin
In a landmark decision on Tuesday, a federal judge sided with two Republican attorneys general in a major fight over free speech and the First Amendment.
U.S. Judge Terry Doughty issued an injunction that blocks numerous top Biden administration officials and agencies from communicating and meeting with social media companies. The injunction was in response to a lawsuit brought by Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt and former Attorney General of Louisiana Jeff Landry.
The two Republicans claim that Biden Administration officials had been pushing social media companies to censor content related to the coronavirus pandemic, which the two say amounts to “the most egregious violations of the First Amendment in the history of the United States of America.”
In his ruling, Judge Doughty sided with the Republican attorneys general and determined that they had indeed “produced evidence of a massive effort by Defendants, from the White House to federal agencies, to suppress speech based on its content.”
The judge did, however, allow for Biden administration officials to continue to communicate with social media companies in certain limited circumstances, such as informing them of posts involving criminal activity or national security threats.
In reacting to the news, Senator Schmitt declared “Big win for the First Amendment on this Independence Day.”
“White House officials, CDC & others are stopped cold. We need to continue the fight to take down the Vast Censorship Enterprise,” he said. “Their view of ‘misinformation’ isn’t an excuse to censor. This is the most important free speech case in a generation. Freedom is on the march.”
The ruling is a major victory for advocates of free speech and could lead to more legal action in the future. It will likely add fuel to the longstanding conservative argument that there is rampant censorship by the government and tech giants, and could further deepen the already-changing relationship between the Biden White House and the tech industry.
