Karma: Dem Begs For Police To Return After She Pushed To Remove Them
The people of San Francisco deserve better than the blatant hypocrisy of their elected officials when it comes to the issue of crime. Supervisor Hillary Ronen is a prime example of the political opportunism that is doing nothing to help the city.
Of course, it's a Hillary...
Ronen, a Democrat and the supervisor for District 9, recently made a plea to add more officers to the Mission District, despite having advocated to defund the police in 2020. During a budget and appropriations committee meeting on Wednesday, she attacked San Francisco's police chief for allegedly not prioritizing police presence in her district.
But Ronen's words directly contradicted her stance on policing in 2020. After the George Floyd protests, Ronen tweeted that she believed "strongly" that San Francisco's police force needed to be reduced. She even voted to redirect $120 million from law enforcement to fund other city initiatives.
Unsurprisingly, the crime rate in San Francisco has steadily been rising over the past year. The police department is struggling with lack of staffing, as officers recently responded to a burglary more than 15 hours after the 911 call was made.
It's clear that Ronen's plea for more policing is a desperate attempt to save face. She voted to defund the police, and now she wants the city to foot the bill for the consequences of her actions. It's a cowardly move, and one that is putting the safety of San Francisco residents at risk.
We need real solutions for the city's crime problem, not political posturing from their elected officials. It's time for Supervisor Hillary Ronen and other Democrats to stop pushing their agenda of defunding the police, and instead focus on making San Francisco safer.
I want to make it clear that I believe strongly in defunding the police and reducing the number of officers on our force. For decades we’ve had an imbalance in our city’s budget, with hundreds of millions of dollars going to SFPD to have them do work they are not qualified to do.

We need to invest in law enforcement, not just in terms of money, but also in terms of trust. We need to make sure that police officers are properly trained, that they are held accountable for their actions, and that they are given the tools they need to do their jobs effectively.
We need to invest in community policing, so that police officers can build relationships with the communities they serve. We need to increase the number of officers on the streets and make sure that they are doing their jobs efficiently and effectively.
Finally, we need to make sure that our elected officials are held accountable for their actions. They should not be allowed to get away with political opportunism, and they should not be allowed to push their agendas without considering the consequences.
It's time for Supervisor Hillary Ronen and other Democrats to stop pushing their agenda of defunding the police and instead focus on real solutions that will make San Francisco safer.
