Law Professor Turley Shuts Impeachment Dem's New Claim Down- Wrong AGAIN!
A liberal law professor at George Washington University Law Professor and self-proclaimed liberal, Jonathan Turley, slams Democrats again for trying to impeach President Trump for a second time. I wrote about Mr. Turley's warning to impeachment Dems before, this time Turley hit the issue right on the head- there are no grounds for impeachment.
Turley has taken on heavy criticism from the left for speaking the truth about the kind of damage Democrats will inflict on the Constitution but that didn't stop him from reiterating and elaborating his points on his own site:
"In my view, impeaching on the speech alone would raise serious concerns over the use of impeachment in the future. Many Democrats, including members of Congress, refused to accept Trump as the legitimate president when he was elected and refused to do so as rioting broke out at the inauguration. Many of the same members have used the same type of rhetoric to 'take back the country' and 'fight for the country.' The concern is that this impeachment will not only create precedent for an expedited pathway of 'snap impeachments' but allow future Congresses to impeach presidents for actions of their supporters,"
Turley writes. "The point of this column is to call for greater caution and deliberation before we take this step to consider the basis and implications of this impeachment. As with the calls to use the 25th Amendment, there are real dangers to any opportunistic or hurried use of this option. There is also the alternative of a joint and bipartisan condemnation of both houses, which would be both justified and unassailable."
Turley also took his argument to Twitter writing:
While I was highly critical of the President's remarks, he never actually called for violence or a riot. Indeed, he expressly told his followers “to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.” Such marches are common in both federal and state capitols.
...The damage caused by the rioting was enormous, but it will pale in comparison to the damage from the new precedent of a “snap impeachment” for speech protected under the 1st Amendment. It would do to the Constitution what the rioters did to the Capitol: Leave it in tatters.
...In seeking his removal for “incitement,” Democrats would gut not only the impeachment standard but free speech, all in a mad rush to remove Trump just days before the end of his term...
Author Franz Kafka once wrote, “My guiding principle is this: Guilt is never to be doubted.” Congressional Democrats appear close to adopting that Kafkaesque standard into the Constitution as they prepare for a second impeachment of President Trump...
No one is blind to Democrat's efforts to needlessly impeach Trump. It would deny Trump the fringe benefits allotted to any ex-president but more importantly to Dems, it prevents the President from running for president in the future.
Shortly after the electoral college announced former vice president Joe Biden for president, Trump announced a 2024 run.
What Else?
Since we are on the subject of free speech...
In addition to President Trump's permanent ban from Twitter, several other conservatives tied to the President have also been banned from the social media site. Including Former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former Trump attorney Sidney Powell were among those suspended, while House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and many other GOP politicians lost large numbers of followers.
Twitter said late Monday it purged more than 70,000 accounts supposedly affiliated with conspiracy theory QAnon following the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol last week.
“I don’t even understand what QAnon is,” said Powell in a statement. “I don’t follow it. Twitter is simply cracking down on conservatives, abusing its platform, breaching contracts, tortious interfering with businesses, and engaging in fascist suppression of truth and speech.”
