Lizzo Gets Dropped From Super Bowl Halftime Consideration Says Report
The Super Bowl halftime show is always a momentous occasion, typically featuring some of the most celebrated musical acts of the day.
This year, however, it appears that pop star Lizzo will not be taking the stage at Super Bowl LVIII for the most talked-about event of the year.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, an NFL insider has stated that the organization is now dropping Lizzo from consideration for the halftime show in light of a recent scandal involving alleged abusive behavior from the singer.
The scandal erupted earlier this week when reports surfaced of three former dancers filing lawsuits against Lizzo, claiming she exercised a level of abusive control in the treatment of her employees during the tour. One dancer even alleged that Lizzo fat-shamed her in a fit of rage following her gaining weight.
Lizzo has since issued a statement denying the allegations, but it appears that it has already done very little to change the public perception.
Since news of the scandal first became public, an additional six individuals have come forward with allegations of mistreatment, as well as the sudden cancelation of her headlining appearance at the Made in America Festival.
The recent developments have put a seemingly blemish on the pop star's inspiring story of self-empowerment and the NFL wants none of it.
“Talks of Lizzo being a part of the Halftime festivities, or performing the National Anthem, are dead now that she is surrounded by scandal,” the source reportedly said. “It is becoming more and more difficult with more people coming forth accusing her of extremely inappropriate acts.”
Though Lizzo is desperate to salvage her reputation, it appears that any future involvement in the Super Bowl festivities may be off the table for her.
Super Bowl LVIII is set to take place February 11 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, featuring more than just the biggest musical acts but an “unforgettable celebration of one of the world's greatest events.”
And while it has yet to be announced who will be taking the stage for the halftime show, by all accounts it appears that it won’t be Lizzo.
