Looks Like The Brave Snake Island Soldiers Survived But It's Not All Good News
It's kind of a mixed bag of information. On one hand, reports claim that the 13 Ukrainian soldiers of Snake Island might not be dead, after all. On the other hand, they have been taken captive by the Russians.
The Snake Island soldiers went viral after a Russian warship ordered them to disarm or face death. The men responded to the Russian's threats by telling them to 'go f*ck' themselves. The island was destroyed and understandably it was believed the men were killed in the blast.
According to Euro News, Russia had denied allegations that the 13 Ukrainian soldiers were killed by air and sea strikes. Russian state TV later showed what it claimed was footage of the soldiers alive in custody, but the footage could not be independently verified.
"We are very happy to learn that our brothers are alive and everything is well with them," it said in a statement.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGSU) had also u-turned and suggested that the 13 border guards may still be alive.
Kyiv said that the island's communications and infrastructure had been "completely destroyed" by Russian "occupiers," making it harder to find out what had happened to the soldiers.
The reported footage released by Russia was said to be blurry and the men could not be properly identified so I am not convinced they are alive, but hopeful. Russians do not have the greatest track record when it comes to honor and honestly.

Another thing worth mentioning is that if the men are alive, we have no way of knowing what kind of condition they are in. With reports claiming that Russia is already feeling the financial effects of US sanctions, I'm a little worried about their living conditions.
Russian forces' movement towards the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv is currently "stalled," a senior U.S. defense official said Tuesday morning, citing a variety of factors, including a lack of food for Russian troops.
