McCarthy Takes Questions Amid WH Letter
The White House is facing backlash from Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy for reportedly pressuring the media to target Republicans rather than scrutinize President Joe Biden and his son Hunter’s business partnerships.
“Corporate media has a political bias. It’s a fact of life,” McCarthy’s official statement released Thursday reads. “Remember when they did everything they could to bury the Hunter Biden laptop story? Still, it’s a true act of desperation for the Biden White House to give the media marching orders. That’s exactly what happened yesterday when the White House Counsel’s Office delivered a message to news organizations demanding the media “ramp up its scrutiny of House Republicans.”
Referring to a memo sent Wednesday from the White House Counsel’s Office to media organizations, the statement went on to rebuke the Biden administration for attempting to manipulate the independent press into pushing a narrative favorable to them.
“Just think, if the Biden administration is that eager to order independent media organizations to paper over the facts, how much easier would it have been for them to signal to the Department of Justice how to handle Hunter Biden’s case?”

The memo sent Wednesday was a long 14-page document giving instructions for how reporters should cover the impeachment inquiry into President Biden.
“It’s time for the media to ramp up its scrutiny of House Republicans for opening an impeachment inquiry based on lies,” the document states.
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre has been deflecting press questions by stating that she is “not going to answer questions” regarding the impeachment inquiry.
According to Republican legislators, it’s no surprise that The White House is shying away from facing the mainstream press about the inquiry.
“When it comes to Washington, Americans deserve truth and transparency—nothing less,” the statement from McCarthy's office concluded.
It appears the White House is doing all it can to prevent being called into question about their actions and connections. The administration’s attempt to divert focus to Republicans is indicative of an administration trying to shift the public’s attention. Whether or not their efforts will be successful remains to be seen.
