Morgan Freeman Slams Defund Crowd
Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman shook the liberal community after he came out against the 'Defund movement' and essentially the BlackLivesMatter folks. Freeman explained to Black Enterprise magazine that he has no interest in joining the defund-the-police movement.
“I am not in the least bit for defunding the police,” Freeman told reporter Selena Hill in a video posted to Instagram. “Police work is, aside from all the negativity around it, it is very necessary for us to have them and most of them are guys that are doing their job. They’re going about their day-to-day jobs. There are some police that would never pull their guns except in range, that sort of thing.”
Actor Frankie Faison (“The Wire”), who stars as Chamberlain in the film, also participated in the interview and told Hill he agrees with Freeman that diverting money from police departments is not a good idea. “Well, I agree with Morgan,” Faison said. “I’m certainly not in favor of defunding the policemen.”
Maclver Institute reported:
In response to it, major cities—including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Baltimore, Portland, and Austin in addition to Milwaukee—defunded their police departments and the results were predictably disastrous. Portland saw a 530 percent increase in its murder rate. Austin saw a 74 percent rise. New York’s murder rate was 56 percent higher. Chicago’s rose by 54 percent.
With fewer officers on the street and those who remain all but discouraged from doing actual policing, the criminal element in nearly every major city was emboldened in a way that it never had been before.
Call it the “George Floyd Effect;” the devastating impact of governance by woke platitudes replacing actual leadership.
Liberal lawmakers have tried to blame the pandemic for the sudden increase in crime but a report by the FBI has thoroughly destroyed this lie and proven that the Defund the Police push was perhaps the most disastrous effort that local governments have ever undertaken.
