Move Over Disney A New Family Streaming Service Is #1
On Monday, Bentkey, the new entertainment company from Daily Wire, launched its app and quickly rose to the top of the charts. The app, which features over 150 episodes of 18 shows, including four Bentkey originals, became the number one downloaded kids app on the Apple App store, beating out popular apps like YouTubeKids and Paw Patrol Academy.
Bentkey, named after a bent key that Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing has worn around his neck for 28 years, is a separate venture from the main DailyWire+ app. The launch of the app comes at a time when Disney, one of the biggest and most iconic studios in the world, is facing backlash for its increasingly political and controversial content.
In a pre-recorded address from Lake Bled in Slovenia, Boreing, who is currently on a leave of absence from his role at Daily Wire, spoke about the inspiration behind the name and mission of Bentkey. He highlighted the differences between his company and Disney, stating that while Walt Disney loved America and its values, the company he founded seems to have abandoned his legacy and pushes the agenda of the "woke Left."
"The company he founded seems to think America is systemically racist, and beyond just their content Disney as a corporation pushes all the worst excesses of the woke Left... It would be impossible to overstate just how big a loss this is for Americans who believe in basic reality," Boreing said.
Along with the launch of the app, Boreing announced that a live-action film titled "Snow White and the Evil Queen" would be coming to Bentkey, featuring Daily Wire YouTube star Brett Cooper. Boreing also shared that Bentkey's focus is not on politics, but rather on providing kids with wholesome and enjoyable content. He stated that Bentkey is "dedicated to creating the next generation of timeless stories that transport kids into a world of imagination and joy."
Despite being new to the market, Bentkey has high aspirations. Boreing acknowledged that it will take time for the company to catch up to Disney, but he hopes that one day Bentkey may become like the Disney of old, "a little studio with big ideas and the courage to chase them."
The app is available now on various platforms, including desktop, iOS, Android, AppleTV, Roku, and FireTV. New episodes will be released every Saturday, and new series will be added on an ongoing basis. With its focus on uplifting and family-friendly content, Bentkey is poised to become a major player in the entertainment industry and provide an alternative for families seeking non-political content for their children. As Bentkey continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how it competes with established giants like Disney in the ever-changing landscape of entertainment.
