Newsom Comments On Trump's Statement Regarding California City
President Donald Trump has made his move on San Francisco — and as expected, California Governor Gavin Newsom is already threatening lawsuits and sounding alarms. After weeks of signaling that the Golden City was next on his list in a nationwide crime crackdown, the Trump administration has officially deployed approximately 100 federal agents to the Bay Area, according to confirmation from News Nation and corroborated by sources within the Department of Homeland Security.
Agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and other federal units are now on the ground or en route, with some staging out of Coast Guard facilities near Alameda. While the Coast Guard clarified that its role is purely supportive — focused on ensuring secure operations — the magnitude of this move has already touched a nerve in California’s leadership.

San Francisco, often idealized in past decades as a crown jewel of West Coast urban life, has in recent years earned a different reputation: spiraling property crime, open-air drug use, rampant homelessness, and businesses fleeing its downtown core. According to national data, San Francisco ranks 13th for property crime and — more alarmingly — higher than Chicago in overall major crime rankings. The numbers paint a sobering picture of what was once one of America’s most admired cities.
While local authorities were quick to distance themselves from the operation — the Alameda Police Department issued a statement that it "does not enforce federal immigration laws or related civil warrants" — the federal presence is unmistakable. And it’s been met with fierce opposition from Governor Newsom, who wasted no time vowing legal retaliation.

“We’re going to be fierce in terms of our response,” Newsom declared at a press conference. “This is the lawsuit that I will file within a nanosecond.” Newsom also painted a contradictory portrait of San Francisco, describing it as one of the “safest large cities” in the country — despite the very crime data that triggered the federal intervention.
The governor touted a claimed reduction in homicides and suggested an “economic rebirth,” but critics — including many longtime residents and business owners — point to the continued exodus of companies, shuttered storefronts, and a population drop fueled by concerns over affordability, public safety, and governance.
GOLDEN COMEBACK: President Trump says San Francisco is next for National Guard deployment:
“San Francisco was truly one of the great cities of the world, and then 15 years ago it went wrong, it went woke.”

Trump, for his part, seemed unfazed by Newsom’s rhetoric. “We’re going to go to San Francisco next,” he said during a recent interview. “The difference is, I think they want us in San Francisco. San Francisco was truly one of the great cities of the world. And then, 15 years ago, it went wrong. It went woke.”
The president didn’t stop there. “We’re going to go to San Francisco, and we’re going to make it great,” he added, echoing his signature refrain.
