Plot Twist: Man With 'N-Word' And 'Trump' Painted On His Car Was Arrested For Fraud [Video]
It seems we have yet another hate crime hoax on our hands after a southern main claimed racial slurs were spray-painted on his family vehicles. This entire situation brings back memories of the Jussie Smollett case.
While Smollett will face-off with prosecutors in the next few weeks, this new alleged faker's woes are just beginning. With so many similar cases popping up around the nation it brings into question if harsher punishment for fake hate crimes.
A Mississippi man who claimed he was the victim of racism-fueled graffiti has been arrested because police discovered the man allegedly orchestrated a hoax.
In early February, WREG-TV reported that Southaven, Mississippi, police and the FBI were investigating after Trumaine Foster reported his vehicles had been spray-painted with racist slurs. His pickup truck had the N-word painted on it, while a car had the phrase "Leave n*****" and "Trump" painted on it, TheBlaze reported.
Foster was taken into custody Friday and charged with insurance fraud and tampering with evidence, but Southaven police stopped short of explicitly saying Foster was responsible for the graffiti.
"That it was a hoax just kind of made us look silly," Foster's neighbor Shelby Littleton said.
“To make something up, that just does not make sense to me," Bradley Littleton said.
WREG discovered that Foster owns a body shop in Olive Branch. Multiple people in the automotive community tell us he specializes in painting cars. One of those people even tells us he painted his wife's car after it was spray-painted.
"That’s just embarrassing. That’s absolutely embarrassing," Shelby Littleton said.
Hate crime hoaxes have become a regular occurrence in recent years. Almost every account attempts to tie Trump's supports into the heinous fakery. Thankfully though, police have been fairly successfully discovering the truth.
Stricter laws against these types of crimes could help save man-power and taxpayer's funds from being wasted investigating fake allegations.
