President Trump Tells Mitch McConnell To Use Nuclear Option In Funding The Wall
As the government shutdown looms it’s ugly head around the corner. President Trump is urging Mitch McConnell to use the “nuclear option” to push the spending bill through the Senate and thereby funding the Wall.
The bill successfully passed through the House last night. As BPR News reported,
Amid all the uproar Thursday evening over Defense Secretary Jim Mattis tendering his resignation after President Trump announced that he will withdraw troops from Syria, the House quietly passed a stopgap measure for funding the government that includes $5 billion for a border wall.
The Republican-controlled House approved the measure by a vote of 217 to 185 along party lines. The spending bill now goes to the Senate and the funding that President Donald Trump has so doggedly pursued may now be within his grasp — depending on how badly Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wants it.
President Trump tweeted out early this morning, “Mitch, use the Nuclear Option and get it done! Our Country is counting on you!”

So what exactly is this “nuclear option” that the President mentioned? Fox News explains,
President Trump on Friday publicly urged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to deploy the so-called “nuclear option” to jam through a controversial spending package that includes billions in border-wall funds, as Washington’s warring parties remain on a collision course toward a partial government shutdown at midnight.
“Mitch, use the Nuclear Option and get it done! Our Country is counting on you!” the president tweeted, referring to congressional slang for overhauling the Senate filibuster so legislation can pass with just 51 votes, as opposed to the usual 60.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders also told Fox News, “The Senate has a constitutional duty and a constitutional authority to actually protect our country. We can’t be a sovereign country if we don’t have borders and we don’t have protection of the American citizens.”
President Trump made a speech about border security. You can watch it below.
So essentially, Mitch McConnell holds the passing of this bill in his hands. Does he want the wall funded or not? We’ll soon find out if he’s a RINO or a true conservative.
