Republican Lawmakers Push HHS To Dump SICK Hidden Obamacare Surcharge
Republican lawmakers are taking on the Department of Health and Human Services to take down a hidden surcharge that funds abortions from Obama's halfbaked healthcare plan. More than 120 Republicans signed off on the letter to Alex Azar, the secretary of HHS to remove this sneaky surcharge.
According to Western Journal, The letter supports a new rule proposed by HHS that would require separate payments for abortion coverage in ACA plans. Previously, the Obama administration had allowed abortion service charges to be collected with other premium payments.
“Section 1303 of the ACA required qualified health plans (QHPs) that covered elective abortions to collect a separate payment — sometimes referred to as an abortion surcharge — of at least $1 per enrollee per month and deposit it into an abortion account,” the letter read.
“Unfortunately, in an exercise of executive overreach, the Obama Administration undermined Section 1303 by interpreting ‘separate’ to mean ‘together’ in subsequent regulatory guidance.
“Blatantly disregarding congressional authority, the guidance stated that simply sending a single notice about the surcharge or itemizing the abortion surcharge on monthly bills would satisfy the requirement under Section 1303.”
Obama couldn't get taxpayers to knowingly pay for abortions so he snuck this nasty little surcharge in to ensure that he gets his way into his healthcare program. It's a play right out of the Democrat handbook.
ObamaCare requires every American to purchase health insurance, it requires every state to establish health insurance exchanges, and it dramatically expands Medicaid. Each of these – private health insurances programs, exchanges, and Medicaid – can, and in some case are required to, provide coverage for abortion. The result is hundreds of millions of dollars being funneled to the abortion industry every year and the greatest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade.
In fact, the law specifically provides that state health exchanges may cover abortions unless the state enacts specific legislation prohibiting abortion coverage. Moreover, the law’s requirement that insurance providers cover “preventive services” and preventative care are so broadly defined that they could be used to force coverage of abortions and abortion-related drugs. Thus, all Americans are forced to purchase health insurance that could cover abortion and in some cases is required to cover abortion.
The letter is a step in the right direction but Obamacare has more than one claw into taxpayer's money via forced coverage so lawmakers have a long road ahead of them.
