Rogan Comments On Interview Possibility
In a surprising turn in the 2024 campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris was slated to appear on The Joe Rogan Experience, but the conditions proposed by her team led podcast host Joe Rogan to decline.
According to Rogan, Harris’s campaign requested that the interview be limited to an hour and take place at a location of her choosing. Rogan, known for his marathon conversations in his Austin studio, wanted the flexibility to have a candid, extended exchange.
"I really hope we can make it happen," Rogan posted on X, adding his intent to approach Harris “as a human being,” without a set agenda.
The debate over Harris’s appearance on Rogan’s podcast follows former President Donald Trump’s highly successful sit-down with Rogan, which has already amassed over 17 million views on YouTube.
By contrast, Harris’s recent interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast attracted 685,000 views over two weeks. Rogan’s male-skewed audience, largely under age 35, represents a demographic that Harris has struggled to connect with; recent polls show Trump leading Harris among male voters by a substantial margin, 53% to 37%, while Harris maintains a similar lead with female voters.
In his interview with Trump, Rogan delved into a range of topics, from UFOs to border policy and nutrition in the U.S., which kept viewers engaged through its three-hour runtime. Trump even arrived late to his rally in Traverse City, Michigan, due to the length of the conversation, demonstrating his commitment to reaching Rogan’s audience.
During the episode, Trump and Rogan discussed the potential Harris interview, with Trump predicting that Harris might struggle in such a candid, free-form setting.
Harris’s team reportedly sees the value in reaching Rogan’s vast audience of over 14 million Spotify subscribers and nearly 18 million YouTube followers. However, with Trump’s appearance clearly resonating with this demographic, Democratic strategists are now urging Harris to seize the opportunity, emphasizing the potential to reach a critical voter base via non-traditional media.
Whether she’ll agree to Rogan’s terms remains to be seen, but both campaigns recognize the power of direct engagement through platforms like Rogan’s as they vie to attract younger, independent, and undecided voters.
