Surveillance Caught Senseless Attack On Disabled Man In Target, You Won't Believe Why This Happened
A 52-year-old wheelchair-bound Philip Kinstler found himself in an unthinkable position. After 30 years of being in a chair, he knows all too well the importance of an open handicap space in a busy shopping center.
Kinstler says when he saw someone without a handicap plaque in one of the parking spots he tapped on their window to let them know they were in the wrong spot. Kinsler says that was the entirety of his interaction with the woman inside the car.
He then went inside Target and headed to customer service. No big deal, right?
As Kinstler waited to be helped a man approached him demanding that he apologize to his wife- the woman allegedly illegally parked in the handicap parking spot. The man then proceeded to wheel Kinstler off against his wheel before dumping him onto the floor.
"I was scared. I've never been that scared in my entire life," Kinstler told KPIX, adding that he believes the husband and wife "were going to work on me" outside the store.
To add insult to injury, the attack took place in a store filled with able-bodied shoppers and staff who could clearly see the attack. However, not a single person intervened.
"The thing that hurt me the most is that people just stood there," he told KPIX. "They did nothing. All they had to do is stand in front of my wheelchair."
Kinstler suffered a broken arm after the attack from trying to brace the fall. That's a life-altering injury to anyone wheelchair-bound. He will likely now need assistance completing some tasks, costing Kinstler his independence.
"I was just thinking, this guy knew exactly what to do to destroy me because without my wrist, no family, maybe nursing home, and no guitar," Kinstler told KPIX.
According to TheBlaze, detectives received a partial license plate number for the couple's vehicle, identified it, presented the case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office — and then charges of attempted kidnapping and assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury were filed Jan. 17 and an arrest warrant was issued, the station said.
Two days later, 32-year-old Jimmie Tiger was arrested and taken to jail, KPIX reported, adding that Tiger has since posted bond.
