Texas Cop Fired Over Viral Rant Post
The situation unfolded quickly and left little room for ambiguity.
A Houston police officer is now off duty and under internal investigation after a social media video surfaced showing her making a series of explicit racial remarks. Officer Ashley Gonzalez, who joined the Houston Police Department in January 2024, was relieved of duty after the video began circulating online.
In the clip, Gonzalez appears seated in a car, speaking directly to the camera. The statements attributed to her are direct and repeated. She allegedly declares that she “hates black people” and goes further, suggesting she would take action against any Black individual encountered while responding to a call. The language used in the video is not indirect or open to interpretation—it is blunt, specific, and sustained over several remarks.
At one point, Gonzalez recounts an off-duty incident in which she claims someone attempted to steal her wallet. In describing the encounter, she says she used a racial slur and describes the experience in approving terms.
She also references her prior service in the U.S. Marine Corps, where records indicate she served from 2019 to 2023 and reached the rank of corporal.
The video includes additional remarks mocking historical and racial issues, adding to the severity of the situation. Gonzalez also states that portions of her comments were not recorded, implying that the full extent of her language may not be publicly visible.
The Houston Police Department responded by removing her from duty and launching an internal investigation. She has been required to surrender her badge and firearm while the review is ongoing. Department procedures now place her status in limbo—she remains employed for the time being but could face termination depending on the outcome.
The Houston Police Officers’ Union issued a statement distancing itself from the remarks, stating clearly that it does not condone racist behavior from its members.
The case now moves into a formal review process. The outcome will determine whether Gonzalez returns to duty or is permanently removed from the department.
