'She Betrayed Us All': Trump-Back Challenger Clamps Down On Liz Cheney
Democrats must be furious to learn that Donald Trump enforced Liz Cheney's GOP challenger, Harriet Hageman for the upcoming primaries. Cheney may be the incumbent candidate, but Trump's enforcement will certainly give Hageman an edge.
During an interview on Fox, Laura Ingraham told viewers that Hageman is a lawyer who has spent decades fighting back against government overreach on environmental issues – but like many Wyoming Republicans, she became disillusioned with Cheney after previously supporting her.
Hageman then spoke about exactly why she decided to join a list of other Wyoming Republicans in attempting to oust Cheney:
"Liz Cheney has betrayed Wyoming, she betrayed all of us and she betrayed me.
And had I known five years ago that Liz Cheney would align herself with Pelosi and the radical Democrats in Washington, D.C., I probably wouldn’t even have taken that first phone call.
The fact is, the state of Wyoming deserves to be represented by someone from Wyoming, by someone who was born and raised here as I was, and someone who has Wyoming’s best interests at heart.
That’s why I’m running to be the next congresswoman from the state of Wyoming."
Before she was booted from her chairman post in the House Republican Conference, Cheney expressed support for impeaching Trump over the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.
“The President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack,” Cheney said at the time. “Everything that followed was his doing. None of this would have happened without the President. The President could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not. There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.”
Cheney has long-sided with Democrats and voted twice to impeach Trump so it should be no surprise to her that Trump chose to back her challenger. Cheney's approval rating in Wyoming has dwindled over the years due to poor leadership practices.
