Trump Sends A POWERFUL Message To Socialist Ridden Venezuela
President Donald Trump on Monday stopped just short of threatening military action in Venezuela when he urged the country’s military to remove its disputed president, Nicolás Maduro, and to allow humanitarian aid to come in.
“We seek a peaceful transition to power. But all options are on the table,” Trump said to a Republican-heavy crowd in Miami, home to a sizable population of Venezuelan exiles as well as Cuban-American exiles who identify with their cause, according to Politico.
“We’re here to proclaim a new day is coming in Latin America,” the president said. “In Venezuela and across the Western Hemisphere, socialism is dying and liberty, prosperity and democracy are being reborn.”
Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sen. Rick Scott both won their elections in 2018 by courting these Hispanic voters and warning against the dangers of socialism, forming a possible blueprint to help Trump carry the state a second time. Democrats have already worried that Trump could be making inroads because of ill-advised criticisms of U.S. policy toward Venezuela by Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and other Democrats in Congress.
“Socialism is unfortunately what many Democrats want to bring to our country,” Sen. Rick Scott said. “They should take a fact-finding trip to Caracas. They should go to Venezuela. They should look at the poverty, the depression, the human rights abuses and the death and destruction. They should come back here and apologize to the American people for promoting socialism in our country.”
At a speech before the United Nations, Trump publicly criticized socialist regimes, such as Maduro’s, for subjecting their people and keeping them in abject poverty.
“Virtually everywhere socialism or communism has been tried, it has produced suffering, corruption, and decay,” the president said. “Socialism’s thirst for power leads to expansion, incursion and oppression. All nations of the world should resist socialism and the misery that it brings to everyone.”
