Trump To Create New Reserve Element For US Military Branch
Let’s talk about a significant announcement that could shape the future of U.S. national security.
On Monday, former President Donald Trump, now the Republican presidential nominee, made some bold promises during his speech at the National Guard Association of the United States conference in Detroit. If he wins back the presidency this fall, Trump intends to create a new reserve component specifically for the U.S. Space Force.
Trump kicked off his remarks by reflecting on one of his proudest achievements from his first term—establishing the U.S. Space Force. This was a monumental step, as it was the first new branch of the Armed Forces created in over 70 years. But Trump isn’t stopping there. He’s now advocating for the creation of a Space National Guard, which would serve as the primary combat reserve for the Space Force.
Trump emphasized, "Now that Space Force is up and running, I agree with your leadership… that the time has come to create a Space National Guard as the primary combat reserve of the U.S. Space Force." He promised that, if elected, he would sign historic legislation to bring this idea to life.

But Trump’s vision for the future of the U.S. military doesn’t stop at the stars. He also discussed plans for a sweeping investment in advanced technologies that are crucial for maintaining America’s defense capabilities in the 21st century. These investments would focus on areas like drones, robotics, artificial intelligence, and hypersonics—technologies that are becoming increasingly important in modern warfare.
Trump’s creation of the U.S. Space Force back in 2018 was a significant move, recognizing that space is now a critical domain in military strategy, much like land, air, and sea. "Space is a war-fighting domain, just like the land, air, and sea," Trump said at the time. His decision to establish the Space Force marked a new era for U.S. military strategy, emphasizing the importance of space in national defense.
During his speech in Detroit, Trump also proposed another ambitious plan: the creation of a missile defense system for the United States that would be similar to Israel’s "Iron Dome." The Iron Dome is a highly effective missile defense system that has been crucial in protecting Israel from aerial threats. Trump stated, "And, we’re going to build a great Iron Dome for missile defense around our nation."
He pointed out that while former President Ronald Reagan had envisioned such a system many years ago, the necessary technology was not available at the time. But now, according to Trump, the technology is ready, and so is the plan.
