Trump & Tucker Just Beat Fox News At Their Own Game
President Donald Trump sat down with Fox News host Tucker Carlson for an extensive interview on Wednesday night, in lieu of joining the rest of the Republican candidates for a debate, and the one-on-one conversation has already made a huge splash.
The conversation, which included questions from Carlson about whether Trump believes America is headed for a civil war and if he is worried about assassination attempts, collected a staggering 180 million views in just a few hours and has been all the talk of cable news.
During the interview, Trump exclaimed that he is leading in the polls and that the debates are unnecessary.
"I'm leading by [40] points," Trump said. "But I'm gonna have all these people screaming at me, shouting questions at me. All of which I love answering. I love doing, but it doesn't make sense to do 'em. So, I've taken a pass."
He went on to address his pending legal cases, calling them "nonsense." He compared his situation to his one-time opponents Hillary Clinton and Democrat Stacey Abrams, both of whom challenged the outcome of their respective races but were never indicted.
Furthermore, Carlson asked about Trump's political enemies and if he was worried that they may be planning an assassination attempt. The former president answered the question by noting the level of hatred he has seen and believing it to be the perfect combination for something horrible to occur.
Trump also discussed his record on foreign policy and immigration, touting himself in each case. Additionally, Trump criticized President Biden, saying he doesn't actually run the country and that his family's business dealings have "compromised" him.
All in all, Trump's interview touched on a myriad of topics and has been an instant hit with viewers, some of whom praised Trump's performance and the courage to skip the debate.
It's still unclear where the former president stands in the Republican Party race -- and it's impossible to tell whether or not his interview with Carlson will help his support. But it can be said that this conversation with the Fox News host will undoubtedly be talked about for days to come.
