University Losses It Over Possible ‘Racist Threat’, You Won’t Believe What It Was
The University of Michigan Hospital launched an investigation after a supposed noose was found on an employee’s desk.
Now the investigation has concluded investigators found that it wasn’t a noose but an overactive imagination to blame for the madness.
Local news agencies were contacted and a full on-campus hysteria broke out when two employees say they found a noose at their work station. The dean of the medical school said it was ‘an act of hate’ while police released a statement calling the supposed noose a ‘racially motivated threat’.
That was June 20. Nearly a month later, the University of Michigan’s Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) concluded the “noose” was not a noose at all, but actually a practice knot.
“Based on multiple witness interviews and other evidence, DPSS does not believe that the incident involving the rope was a hate crime. If relevant new information comes forward, the case will be reopened,” the department said in a statement.
The “spool of rope” was concluded to have been used by someone who was on break and practicing a “Uni Knot,” which is used for fishing. This person returned the rope to a storage area with the knot still in tied and was discovered the next day by another employee.
Even though this incident turned out not to be a hate crime, DPSS still felt it necessary to insist hate crimes are “taken very seriously.”
The Original News Report:
What makes this all the more ridiculous is the knot is fairly common in the medical field. So common that staffers should have recognized it. University public safety spokeswoman Heather Young says the rope is typically used for traction after surgical procedures. She says there’s no evidence to indicate that a crime, motivated by bias, had been committed.
That is over-reacting at it’s finest! A direct result of today’s ‘freak out first- ask questions later’ climate that we live in.
