Warren Sits Down For Interview With Jake Tapper
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) made headlines over the weekend when she refused to deny claims that Vice President Kamala Harris would be the most far-left president in U.S. history. This comes as Harris seeks to officially wrap up the Democratic nomination for president following President Joe Biden's decision to drop out of the race.
During a Sunday interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” hosted by Jake Tapper, Warren was confronted with a pointed question.
Former President Donald Trump had recently called Harris “the ultra-liberal driving force behind every single Biden catastrophe.” Tapper asked Warren directly, “Is it not true that a President Harris would be the most progressive president in American history? And, in your view, isn’t that a good thing?”
Instead of answering directly, Warren pivoted, saying, “What I see is a vice president who is ready to be president.”
She highlighted Harris's dedication to fighting for working families, noting, “I first got to know her 14 years ago, when she was the one who was shoulder to shoulder fighting back against the giant banks that were foreclosing against the homeowners that they had tricked and were now going to force them to lose their homes.”
Warren emphasized Harris's leadership on key progressive issues, particularly abortion rights, calling her the “national leader” of the leftist movement.
“Kamala Harris, if she can get the right kind of Congress, a Democratic Congress, is going to sign Roe v. Wade into law, so that every woman across this country is fully protected,” Warren stated. “Those are going to be the big issues. And she is the right person to lead on them.”
Warren's comments attempted to underscore Harris's role in advancing progressive policies within the Democratic Party. As the primary race intensifies, Harris's stance on these issues will undoubtedly be a focal point of both support and criticism.
