Watch: Florida Lt Gov Says It's 'No Contest' For Latinos Between Trump And Biden
Over the last 10 years or so Latino voters have slowly shifted towards the left. Historically speaking, most Latinos (especially Cuban Americans) have voted Republican but the tides have been changing for some time. Florida Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez told "Fox & Friends Weekend" that Trump has changed that recent shift and predicts that Trump will take the Latino vote by a landslide.
“You have a president that has delivered, has kept his promises and has really authored a great chapter in terms of [record-low] Latino unemployment ... homeownership on the rise,” she said.
In contrast, she said, Biden has lacked campaigning in Florida and simply doesn’t stand for what Latino voters represent and value.
“Latinos care about faith, they care about family and they care about freedom,” she said. “And Joe Biden doesn't stand for any of those things.”
Nunez said the president has “demonstrated his commitment” to the community by taking action and delivering results. She said Biden’s plan to raise taxes on 80% of families, plus his intentions to defund the police, won’t go over well with Latinos.
“Latinos do not want to see their families in peril when they go out the door, when they go to restaurants they don't want to be accosted by rioters,” she said.
“This president has stood strong in the face of dictators," she added. "And I think Joe Biden, the likes of Bernie Sanders, AOC, will simply cower to global progressives and to despots and dictators."
Flordia Gov Rick Scott also agrees that Trump has the Latino vote in the bag. Scott sees Trump as having an advantage over Biden on jobs, and the socialism issue as hurting Biden, both as a general matter and specifically with regard to policy toward the Castro and Maduro regimes.
“Trump cares about holding the dictators in Cuba and Venezuela and Nicaragua accountable, and Biden’s just the opposite,” according to Scott. “He cozies himself up to dictators. He looks to appease Raul Castro — Biden and Obama did — versus Trump, who has done all sorts of things to try to hold the Castro regime accountable. Biden did nothing on Maduro.”
And the anti-police rhetoric on the left isn’t doing Democrats any favors, either. “This defund the police stuff?” Scott says. “I mean, they want to live in a safe community. If you look at the immigrant mentality — the immigrant mentality is they don’t like socialism, they want to be safe, they want a rule of law; they want people to follow the law because that’s what they hated about their countries.”
In all, Trump's values outrank former vice president Biden. Now that Biden has strengthened his bond with Democratic socialists like Bernie Sanders he can kiss the Latino vote goodbye.
