Watchdog Group Releases Report On Social Media Account
The Biden administration is facing new scrutiny over allegations that a Commerce Department staffer, Ethan Wolf, violated the Hatch Act by operating a pro-Kamala Harris social media account while on duty.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) filed an ethics complaint on Wednesday, urging the Office of Special Counsel to investigate Wolf's activities surrounding the X (formerly Twitter) account “Kamala’s Wins.” This development stems from an October investigation by The Daily Wire that raised questions about Wolf’s conduct as a federal employee.
At the heart of the issue is the Hatch Act, a federal law prohibiting government employees from engaging in partisan political activities during work hours or using federal resources. FACT’s complaint alleges that Wolf violated these provisions by running the highly political account while employed as a $94,000-per-year “communications specialist” at the Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration.
FACT’s Executive Director Kendra Arnold characterized the case as “straightforward,” highlighting the prominence of Wolf’s account as evidence of potential coercive influence within his workplace. “Given the prominence of Wolf’s political account, his political activity could easily be seen as coercive and hostile to other employees,” Arnold stated in the complaint.
Wolf’s journey to his current role is intertwined with his social media activity. He initially launched the account as “Biden’s Wins” in January 2022 while working on a Democratic congressional campaign. The account quickly gained popularity, drawing attention from senior White House officials like former Chief of Staff Ron Klain.
Wolf’s meteoric rise included invitations to private White House meetings and photo ops with top officials, solidifying his position as a key online propagandist for the Biden-Harris administration.
After Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, Wolf rebranded the account as “Kamala’s Wins” and later as “Democratic Wins Media.” Throughout these transitions, the account amassed nearly 738,000 followers, often sharing politically charged and sometimes misleading content. Claims that NFL quarterbacks participated in a Harris fundraising event, or that Biden-Harris policies caused inflation and crime rates to drop, are among the many falsehoods shared by the account.
Complicating matters further, The Daily Wire revealed that Wolf frequently shared partisan content from his personal account during work hours, raising further questions about his adherence to federal regulations.
The complaint has drawn attention to the Biden administration’s broader ethical framework, particularly as Wolf’s social media activity—deemed partisan and occasionally misleading—could undermine public trust. While the Office of Special Counsel has yet to announce any action, FACT's call for immediate investigation places the administration under renewed pressure to address potential breaches of the law within its ranks.
