White House Comments On Who Should Testify At Upcoming Hearings
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has turned up the heat on former First Lady Jill Biden, demanding answers over her alleged role in concealing the mental decline of former President Joe Biden.
The explosive accusation follows the release of Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, a book published on May 20, which details alarming accounts of Biden’s struggles while still in office—and raises serious questions about who knew what, and when.
Leavitt minced no words. “The former First Lady should certainly speak up about what she saw… because anybody looking again at the videos and photo evidence of Joe Biden with your own eyes and a little bit of common sense can see this was a clear cover-up,” she said in a forceful statement to reporters.
At the center of the storm is the portrayal of Jill Biden as not just a passive observer, but an active participant in maintaining appearances. “She’s still lying to the American people. She still thinks the American public are so stupid that they’re going to believe her lies,” Leavitt continued, referencing a recent episode of The View where Jill Biden appeared and insisted that everything was fine.
While a spokesperson for Jill Biden has yet to respond, the silence is only intensifying scrutiny, especially with the new revelations in Original Sin. The book, co-authored by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson, paints a troubling picture of the 2024 campaign from the inside.
One anecdote describes a staged campaign event meant to simulate a town hall, in which Biden was pre-fed questions from handpicked participants. Despite the controlled environment, the event was reportedly so fraught that much of the footage had to be scrapped due to Biden’s inability to answer convincingly.
The book alleges that aides routinely shielded the former president from press scrutiny and public events, with even mundane activities like campaign ads requiring multiple takes and heavy editing. Blame was placed on lighting or camera angles, but insiders pointed to a deeper issue: Biden’s increasing cognitive difficulty.
Still, the Biden team has issued a full-throated denial. A spokesperson countered that Original Sin fails to show any moment where Biden was incapable of fulfilling his duties.
“Nowhere do they show that our national security was threatened or where the President wasn’t otherwise engaged,” the statement reads. The team maintains that Biden led with “empathy and skill,” suggesting that critics are exaggerating routine campaign optics into a full-blown crisis.
