Youngkin Gets Good News According To Report
The 2024 election is shaping up to be a nail-biter, and one of the hottest battlegrounds to watch is Virginia, a state that has traditionally leaned blue in recent years but is now showing signs of a closer contest. According to a recent Roanoke College Poll, Vice President Kamala Harris is in a tight race with former President Donald Trump. The poll shows Harris leading Trump by just 3 points, 47% to 44%, which is within the poll’s margin of error. This slim margin indicates just how competitive the race has become in Virginia.
What’s particularly interesting about this poll is how third-party candidates are influencing the dynamics. With Robert Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West in the mix, the race tightens even further, with Harris at 45% and Trump at 42%.
These candidates are capturing small but significant chunks of the vote, making the outcome even more uncertain. The poll also highlights that voters are becoming more certain of their choices, with nearly 80% saying they are very sure of their pick.

The economy is the driving issue for nearly half of the electorate, which isn’t surprising given the ongoing national concerns. Other issues like abortion and immigration are still important, but they’re taking a backseat to economic worries.
In the same poll, the Virginia Senate race is also heating up, though Democrat Senator Tim Kaine seems to have a more comfortable lead over his Republican challenger, Hung Cao. Kaine is ahead by 11 points, which gives him a bit more breathing room compared to the tight presidential race.
When it comes to voter perceptions, the poll paints a nuanced picture of both Harris and Trump. Trump is admired by many for his perceived toughness, especially in the face of national challenges, but there’s also a significant number of voters who see his actions as politically motivated. On the other hand, Harris is viewed by many as more liberal than President Joe Biden, with 45% of voters believing she leans further to the left.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden’s approval ratings aren’t looking great. His disapproval has climbed to 62%, the highest it’s been, largely due to dissatisfaction with how his administration has handled various crises. Congress isn’t faring much better, with approval ratings stuck around 20%.
However, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin is bucking this trend, enjoying a surge in approval thanks to his successful policy implementations. His ability to appeal across party lines is making him a standout figure in a highly polarized political climate.
