OOPS! Mayorkas Just Broke The Narrative, Illegals Are 'Straining Our System'
When President Biden announced his intention to visit the U.S.-Mexico border, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas admitted that the unprecedented surge of undocumented migrants crossing the Southwest border is "straining the system," in a video interview with The Washington Post. It's no secret that the Biden administration is struggling to manage the crisis at the border, but what many people don't realize is that the current immigration system is flawed and desperately in need of real reform.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton put the blame squarely on the Biden administration for “sabotaging” border security. According to Paxton, the Trump administration had the number of illegal immigrants crossing and the amount of crime associated with it significantly lower than it is now. Paxton is demanding that the Biden administration figure out how to manage the border correctly before he will approve any additional funding.
It's clear that illegal immigration has skyrocketed since Biden took office in January 2021. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 233,740 people were encountered crossing into the U.S. in November, the third highest monthly number on record. This is a huge increase compared to the months prior, and it doesn't look like it will stop anytime soon.
It's sad that Biden dismantled the previous system which was actually working and preventing this mess. Instead, he has created a humanitarian and security crisis that only he is responsible for.
The reality is that the current immigration system is failing to meet the needs of those crossing the border. It's time for the Biden administration to take responsibility for the crisis and find a way to provide humane and efficient solutions for those seeking asylum, while also doing what is necessary to protect the security of the United States.
Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that any drastic changes will be implemented in the near future under the current administration. Biden has shown no indication that he is willing to change his stance on immigration reform. This means that hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants will continue to suffer at the hands of an inefficient and broken immigration system.
It's time for the Biden administration to do what is right and take real steps towards immigration reform. Until they do, the crisis at the border will continue, and the suffering of thousands of people will remain.
