AG Pam Bondi Announces Lawsuit Against New York State Officials
Attorney General Pam Bondi took the gloves off Wednesday evening, announcing a major lawsuit against New York Democrats for allegedly shielding illegal immigrants in defiance of federal law.
And she didn’t stop there—she called out Governor Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James, and DMV Commissioner Mark Schroeder by name, making it crystal clear that their policies won’t be tolerated anymore.
“This is a new DOJ, and we are taking steps to protect Americans,” Bondi declared. “New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops. It stops today.”
Now, if you’ve been paying attention, you know that New York’s so-called ‘Green Light’ laws have been a major point of contention. These laws allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses while prohibiting law enforcement from accessing their records—a recipe for disaster that, according to Bondi, puts police officers and everyday Americans at risk.
“Law enforcement officers do not have access to their background,” she explained. “And if these great men and women pull over someone and don’t have access to their background, they have no idea who they’re dealing with. It puts their lives on the line every single day.”
And she’s not wrong. When law enforcement can’t verify identities, it opens the door for violent criminals, gang members, drug traffickers, and human smugglers to operate with impunity. That’s why Bondi made it clear that the DOJ’s crackdown isn’t just about lawsuits—it’s about restoring law and order.
“Violent criminals, gang members, drug traffickers, human smugglers will no longer terrorize the American people, and that is why we are here today,” she said. “You will be held accountable if you do not follow federal law. It’s over, it ends, and we’re coming after you.”
That last part? A direct warning to every other state that refuses to comply with federal immigration law.
Bondi isn’t just playing defense—she’s going on the offensive. She vowed to take this fight all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary, and she made it clear that criminal charges could be on the table—something that Border Czar Tom Homan has also hinted at in recent weeks.
