City Activists Plan Protests Amid ICE Operations
New York City’s already volatile immigration debate is entering a new phase, as socialist activists signal plans to confront federal enforcement directly. According to reporting by the New York Post, the Democratic Socialists of America are organizing what they describe as “rapid response” brigades—an operation that could involve more than 4,000 activists prepared to disrupt Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity across the city if a large-scale crackdown materializes.
The plans were outlined during a recent monthly meeting held at the People’s Forum, a venue the Post described as having ties to the Chinese Communist Party. A DSA leader identified only as Marina told attendees that the group anticipates a surge in federal immigration enforcement similar to operations already carried out in other cities.
Her remarks framed the anticipated ICE activity as chaotic and frightening, while emphasizing the need for activists to be proactive rather than reactive. The meeting reportedly drew more than 100 members, many of whom were first-time participants energized by recent events.

According to the report, the New York City DSA chapter is training roughly 2,000 members and an additional 2,000 non-members, while activating 50 trainers to support the effort. The organization is also expanding its ICE hotline to operate around the clock, signaling an intent to closely monitor federal law enforcement activity in real time. Leaders emphasized the need for multilingual volunteers, appealing to those who speak languages such as Pular, Creole, and Fulani to assist migrants who have arrived illegally from distant regions and settled in the city.
The scope of the operation appears substantial, though organizers did not disclose its cost. Despite describing the effort as “member-funded,” the group reportedly solicited donations multiple times during the two-hour meeting. The Post noted that much of the crowd consisted of mostly white, Gen Z activists who said they were galvanized by the death of Renee Good in Minneapolis earlier this month.
Good was involved with an anti-ICE network trained to resist immigration enforcement, and organizers reportedly see the confrontational tactics used in Minnesota as a model for what they hope to replicate in New York.
Those tactics include mass turnouts at reported ICE locations, the use of loud whistles, and efforts to physically impede agents enforcing federal law. The DSA has also been recruiting in immigrant-heavy neighborhoods such as Chinatown, Bushwick, and Jackson Heights, expanding its footprint ahead of any enforcement action.
While the Department of Homeland Security has not confirmed whether a major sweep involving thousands of agents is imminent in New York City, ICE has continued to publicize arrests of criminal illegal aliens nationwide, including individuals convicted of violent crimes.
